The way Martin has been angling down his local syndicate, we knew it was only a matter of time before he landed his main target. Check out this enormous 57lb 8oz common, one of the biggest commons in the land. Here he is with he story .
“Got to the syndicate lake around 10am this morning, after doing a circuit of the pond and seeing no signs , I set up at one end , only to be invaded by the resident terrorist swans !! Before I'd put a rod out I was packing up and moving to the far end of the lake , at that moment , I felt a warmth from the sun and knew I'd be making the right move , as the fish love the swallow water in the warm weather... unfortunately, so do the swans , which had followed me .. again !!
I could only get one rod out and that was only after I had put my plastic decoy swan at the other end of the lake
Within an hour I had pulled out of 2 fish in the weed , which is unusual, but the weed was horrendous, so hopefully that's all the bad luck out of the way .. At 1.00 pm , within 10 minutes of getting the rod back out , the indicator hit the rod and dropped to the floor , I saw a huge wake coming towards me , like the shark in Jaws !!
After winding furiously for what seemed like ages , I connected with the fish ... Unsurprisingly it weeded me solid .Time for patience and pressure, sure enough , things started to move very slowly in my direction . It was in a massive weedbed to the right of me , so keeping steady pressure to the left kept it moving..
The fish was now close to the net and with the reflection of the sky on the water , I couldn't see how big it was , only for a split second could I see it was a common. I saw my chance and got her in the net first go , no further drama !
Looking at this awesome carp in the bottom of the net takes your breath away . With the help of Jacko , Daren and Perrin, we did the necessaries and saw her swim off strongly and none the worse for wear
